We begin with the grounded and social activity of farm chores: plucking beans or tomatoes, harvesting seeds, washing potatoes, grinding grain, etc. Songs and verses, as well as natural conversation, accompany the work and our transitions between activities.
A circle-time changes with the seasons, inspires the children's imaginations, and nourishes their use of language. Traditional ring games also weave our social fabric.
We take daily walks to care for the farm animals.
A period of free play in the wooded shade and tent classroom allows the children to digest their morning experience. Play materials are of simple wood, rock, sand and cloth, including homemade swings and low climbing branches.
Handwork, art and gardening accompany play, allowing the child opportunities for focus or quiet.
We end with a calming story inspired by nature and traditional folktales.
Snacks are served mid-mornings and afternoons. Lunch is served mid day.
